Who are we writing this for? Odds are this won’t be some mega huge blog with millions of page views each month (unless we start offering daily deals or peddling smut), and I’ve always been convinced that people who write personal blogs are bit self-aggrandizing and consequently undeserving of a dedicated digital following. Are we not allowed to talk about ourselves here? Can we put down some pointless dribble every once and awhile to just get it off our chests? Or do we have to comment on sociopolitical current events with a bipartisan yet witty tongue to earn merit? Well my “first thoughts” (which do not ultimately matter) include, amongst other things, that we are writing this blog for ourselves, for posterity, for our friends and family, and any other sap who somehow finds their way to our page through the dense and cluttered blogosphere. You don’t have to agree with, or even understand, what we are saying. Moreover you don’t have to like it. But most importantly you don’t ever have to come back again, if you do not want to.
To quote George Orwell in 1984, we write this blog “To the future or to the past, to a time when thought is free, when men are different from one another and do not live alone — to a time when truth exists and what is done cannot be undone: From the age of uniformity, from the age of solitude, from the age of Big Brother, from the age of doublethink — greetings!”
